Artistic Statement

My work runs the gamut from the genre, but it has a consistent sound. People often talk over to each other and don't really listen; sometimes they repeat themselves, sometimes they lie, and sometimes they explode/act inappropriately. Most of the time, my stories tend to be about people having a really good time until they're having a really bad or really weird time, and then how they cope with the fallout. Other common themes are drug use/addiction, subcultures, and people struggling to be their authentic selves in a world that isn't made for them. I believe that life is full of suffering and is also ridiculous. Life is the funniest horror show there is. I love tones that exists in shades of gray. I often draw from my own experiences and the experiences of those close to me: fat people, disabled people, queer people, women, & POC.

I am inspired by the past (specifically the 70s-00s), queer historical figures, countercultural movements, David Lindsay-Abaire, Stephen King, Harmony Korine, Ira Levin, Daphne Du Maurier, Theresa Rebeck, Mike White, Richard Kelly, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, John Waters, Augusten Burroughs, pop culture, cartoons/graphic novels/comic strips. My worlds are specific, and are often connected to specific places and points in time. Ultimately, my work is made for outcasts, for I have only ever existed in this world as one, and it is the misfits, the underdogs, the loners, and the misunderstood who fuel my artistic fire and drive my desire to tell stories.
