The plays I write are heightened; they resemble reality but are always a few degrees off from it. I return repeatedly and in different ways to the conflict between art and science, intuition and logic. I write often about the ways in which we must give ourselves over to what does not necessarily make rational sense to us, about the depths that lie beneath the surface we take for granted. I am interested in the ways theatre can make audiences question what they thought they thought, overturning conventional wisdom and social stereotypes — confronting prejudices, fears, and the inability to love or make contact. I am interested in those thoughts that can make us feel emotion.
