I began my journey into the world of playwriting back in college. I had always been interested in and drawn to the theatre arts since I was a preteen. Although, in my earlier years I primarily focused on traditional acting and improvisational theatre. As my interests in theatre evolved I started playwriting because I saw it as the most succinct and lively way to present my voice to the world, to add to the conversation in a language I had been cultivating for years – theatre.
I view my pieces as experimental conversation starters; I often enjoy tackling subject matter from a distorted lens to emphasize certain aspects of it. This manifests itself in absurdism, magical realism, Dadaism, existentialism, or purposeful oddness. I am particularly interested in issues of morality, family tragedy, the intangible powers of intense love or intense hatred, and more.
I have a deeply engrained love for theatre in its most traditional sense but my work blends that approach with a more contemporary and innovative stylization. In my works, this appears as dream sequences, absurdist depictions of the afterlife, abnormal memories, metatheatrical moments, extraordinary metamorphoses, and more.
