Six Decades in the Spotlight (and Behind the Curtain)

I've spent more than sixty years in theater—long enough to watch bell-bottoms go out of style, come back, and go out again. And if you've got a minute, I'll tell you how a kid from Rhode Island ended up with greasepaint in his veins and stories to tell.

It all ignited in the early 1960s when I first stepped onto a stage and felt that electric rush—the lights, the audience holding its breath, the momentary terror that I might forget my lines. I was hooked.

By the 1970s, I'd discovered where I truly belonged: not in front of the lights, but orchestrating everything behind them. My directorial debut was "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" at Middletown High School in Rhode Island, and that was it—I became addicted to the...

My directorial debut was "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" at Middletown High School in Rhode Island, and that was it—I became addicted to the director's view, watching stories explode to life from the best seat in the house.

But here's what I'm proudest of: it's not the standing ovations or the sold-out houses. It's the actors and directors I've mentored along the way. For twenty years starting in 1991, I worked quietly as a Drama Advisor, coaching emerging talent at places like the New England Theatre Training Institute. I've always believed theater is a living tradition—you learn it, you live it, then you pass it on.

I'm a Roger Williams College alum who never kicked the learning habit. Over the years, I tracked down workshops and apprenticeships with legends like Stella Adler, Burt Reynolds, Charles Nelson Reilly, and Avery Schreiber. Each one peeled back another layer of the craft, and I absorbed every lesson like a sponge in a rainstorm. That hunger to keep growing—that's what I hope shows up in everything I create.

The productions? They've been my education, my laboratory, my love affairs. "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Oliver!," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Brighton Beach Memoirs," "Noises Off," "A Few Good Men," "My Three Angels"—and everything from "The Emperor's New Clothes" to "Love Letters." Each one taught me something new about connecting with audiences and coaxing magic from actors across theaters in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, South Carolina, and Florida.

Theater wasn't my only playground. Between 2007 and 2015, I ventured into radio, TV, and film, helming projects like "Newport Arts Scene" on WADK-AM and "Newport RI: The Series" for Newportant Studios. Shows like "Rhode Island Comic Throwdown" and "Newport City Limits" taught me that storytelling doesn't recognize boundaries—it just needs a stage, whether that's made of wood or pixels.

And I never stopped acting. From the stage—"Inherit the Wind," "Wizard of Oz"—to the screen in "You've Got Mail" and "Amistad," plus a string of PSAs and commercials since 2016, I've always loved the challenge of inhabiting different skins, different souls.

Beyond the stage door, I've poured myself into community arts leadership—producing major events like "Newport Rocks the Fort" and working with the Newport Folk & Jazz Festival, Newport Arts and Culture, and the Fort Adams Trust. Theater doesn't exist in a vacuum; it exists to lift communities, to give voice to what matters.

Now comes the twist in my own third act: I'm a produced playwright.

When the pandemic slammed theaters shut in 2020, I did what any theater person does when the curtain won't rise—I found another way to create. With stages dark and audiences scattered, I started writing. What began as a way to stay creatively alive during lockdown became my new calling. After spending decades bringing other people's words to life, I discovered I had plenty of my own to share.

I'm channeling everything I've witnessed, experienced, and survived into plays about real human stories—the messy, beautiful, heartbreaking kind. The best part? I get to direct and perform in my own work.

This is what it's all been building toward. Every show I've directed, every role I've played, every actor I've mentored—it was all preparation for this moment. I'm ready to share my own voice with the world, drawing on sixty-plus years of living, learning, and loving this impossible, irresistible art form we call theater.

And you know what? The curtain's just going up.

FULL LENGTH ( 7M/5F)
In the spring of 1894, amidst contrasting societal conditions known as the "Mauve Decade," the "Gay Nineties," and "The Gilded Age," a significant chapter unfolds in Springdale, western Pennsylvania. The Remaley family, headed by John Randolph Remaley, is at a pivotal moment. John and his brother, George Remaley, own vast stretches of land in the Cheswick and Springdale areas. John, a renowned fisherman along the Allegheny River, holds a record for the largest fish catch with a seine in the river's history, hauling in 40 barrels of white perch near the mouth of the Kiskimnetas in the early 1860s. John and his Irish-born wife, Elizabeth, have settled down and raised a large family consisting of their eleven children: Louis, Mary, Julie, William (John), Samuel, Jacob, Sara (Sadie), Cornelia (Nellie), James, Phillip, and Arabella (Bella). Many of the boys are employed in the railroad and steel mills, facing the challenging times of the Homestead strike 1892, a significant labor dispute involving union workers at a Carnegie Steel plant. As tough economic conditions persist in the Pittsburgh suburb, with deflation, rural decline, and high unemployment rates, the story focuses on the three youngest daughters of the Remaley family, who emerge as the most independent. Bella, the youngest daughter, marries William Arthur, a boarding house resident at Acme Powder Works near Hulton, across the Allegheny River. Bella secures a job for her sister, Sadie, and provides her a place to stay while their sister Nellie takes on cleaning duties for them. Despite the challenges, the three sisters are determined to forge ahead with their lives. However, tragedy looms over their lives as the last day of their existence unfolds. Joined by a surprise visit from their parents, John and Elizabeth, the family gathers for a memorable dinner, unaware that it will be their final moments together. The play delves into the events that transpire on this fateful day, leading to the untimely demise of the three sisters, Bella's husband, William, and Nellie's love interest, Charles Robbins.

Set in the spring of 1894 in the industrial town of Blacks Run, Pennsylvania, "Beneath the Allegheny Sky" is a poignant exploration of love, family, and the human cost of progress. The story centers around the Remaley sisters—Bella, Sadie, and Nellie—intimately connected to the dangerous Acme Powder Works.

As the play opens, the sisters are preparing for a visit from their parents, John and Elizabeth Remaley. Bella, the youngest at 17, is newly married to William Arthur, an ambitious worker at the powder works. Sadie, 21, also works at the factory, while Nellie, 19, keeps house for Bella and William. The sisters' excitement is tinged with anxiety about their parents' reaction to their new lives.

The arrival of John and Elizabeth Remaley brings warmth and tension to the household. A Civil War veteran and traditionalist, John struggles to accept his daughters' choices, particularly their involvement with the powder works. Elizabeth, while supportive, carries her fears for her children's safety.

Interwoven with the family drama are the budding romances of Sadie and Nellie. Sadie finds herself drawn to Samuel Robbins, the 34-year-old superintendent of the powder works, whose sense of duty conflicts with his growing feelings for her. Nellie is courted by Charles Robbins, Samuel's younger brother, who works as a puncher at the factory. Charles's shy nature, stemming from a stutter, endears him to the romantic Nellie.

The family dinner becomes a crucible of emotions, with moments of joy and laughter interspersed with underlying tensions. John subtly interrogates Charles about his intentions towards Nellie, while Samuel's presence adds an element of unease due to his position of authority at the works.

As night falls, intimate conversations reveal the characters' hopes, fears, and dreams. The next morning, emotional goodbyes are said as John and Elizabeth depart, unaware that this is the last time they will see their daughters alive.

The second act opens with growing tension at the powder works. Thomas O'Brien, a government safety inspector, raises concerns about the factory's practices, creating friction with management and anxiety among the workers. Small mishaps and near-misses heighten the sense of impending doom.

Tragedy strikes when a massive explosion rocks the powder works. The blast claims the lives of Bella, Sadie, William, and Charles. Nellie, critically injured, dies shortly after in the hospital. The community is left reeling, with Samuel Robbins bearing the weight of guilt and responsibility.

In the aftermath, John and Elizabeth Remaley grapple with their devastating loss. The official investigation into the accident reveals the tension between corporate interests and worker safety. The grieving parents find themselves at odds with the company as they seek justice for their daughters.

The play concludes a year after the tragedy. John and Elizabeth visit the graves of their daughters, reflecting on the changes in their lives and the community. Despite their pain, they find resilience in their memories and the enduring bonds of family and community.

"Beneath the Allegheny Sky" is a moving tribute to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of tragedy. It explores themes of love, duty, progress, and the price of industrialization, painting a vivid portrait of a family and a community forever changed by a single, catastrophic event.

***Please be aware that the last act of this play's dialogue is from local newspapers of the time and can be graphic and disturbing.***

Wealthy eccentric Eleanor Blackwood stages her death to test her two nephews - anxious English teacher Thomas and pompous financial advisor Richard - to determine who deserves her substantial fortune. The nephews, complete opposites who have never gotten along, arrive at Eleanor's sprawling New England mansion, where her sardonic housekeeper Greta informs them of their aunt's "passing."
Family lawyer Marcus announces Eleanor's unusual last wishes: the nephews must complete a series of challenges over 48 hours to determine who inherits her $28 million estate. The first test had them select the object that meant most to Eleanor. Richard chooses valuable family jewels, while Thomas selects her journal, revealing the first glimpse of their true values.
Complications arise when Eleanor's second test involves caring for six demanding seniors temporarily displaced from a local retirement home. Thomas rises to the occasion with help from his practical girlfriend Sophia, while Richard initially flees to a hotel. When a water pipe bursts, threatening Eleanor's valuable art collection, the cousins must work together, revealing hidden depths in Richard and newfound confidence in Thomas.
At the climax, a video reveals that Eleanor is alive and orchestrates the entire scenario to teach her nephews valuable life lessons. The inheritance will be shared equally between them, with each assigned responsibilities suited to their strengths - Thomas will oversee Eleanor's charitable foundation while Richard will manage the financial assets.
As the play concludes, relationships have transformed: the cousins develop mutual respect, Richard rediscovers his passion for art, Thomas gains confidence, and Marcus and Greta embark on a long-overdue romance. Eleanor returns from her "cruise" to find her scheme has exceeded her expectations, proving that family connections are the most valuable inheritance.

Set during Prohibition, The Somerset Partnership follows Thomas Whitmore, a privileged Boston banker, and Maria Santos, a Cuban American smuggler, who forge an unlikely business alliance that transforms into enduring love. In March 1923, Thomas arrives at Maria's Key West operation, proposing a deal: his legitimate storage facilities and banking connections in exchange for her smuggling expertise. Both are positioning for Prohibition's anticipated repeal, but their partnership quickly becomes
personal. When federal agents close in by October, both face ultimatums—Thomas's father demands he abandon his criminal associations or lose his inheritance, while rival smugglers threaten Maria's operation. Choosing love over safety, Thomas and Maria accept arrest together rather than betray their bond. Their cooperation with authorities earns reduced sentences and helps dismantle violent competitors. Sixteen months later, they've built Somerset Importing Company, a thriving
legitimate business and are expecting their first child. More than a love story, the play explores how true partnership can bridge any divide when both people are willing to transform for each other, creating a new model of the American Dream based on shared growth rather than individual ambition.

The Riverside Community Theater faces closure when artistic director Elena Vasquez discovers an antique trunk containing 18th-century costumes and a manuscript for "Trick for Trick," a lost farce. Theater historian Sarah Goldstein identifies them as artifacts from London's Theatre Royal, where Irish actor Charles Macklin killed Thomas Hallam in 1735 over a wig dispute. Despite Sarah's warnings, Elena stages the play to save her theater. Actors Jamie Campbell and Ryan Murphy are cast in roles
mirroring the original victims. Jamie, struggling with anger management, plays the Irish character based on Macklin, while Ryan, jealous of Jamie's success, plays the English gentleman inspired by Hallam. The spirits trapped in the costumes and manuscript begin possessing the modern performers, replaying their ancient conflict. As supernatural influence escalates, Jamie and Ryan lose control of their identities, becoming vessels for centuries-old hatred. The crisis peaks when the fully
possessed actors confront each other at midnight, with Macklin and Hallam's actual ghosts manifesting to complete their deadly business. Through Sarah's historical knowledge and Elena's leadership, the spirits are forced to confront their
eternal hatred. The breakthrough comes when Macklin's ghost expresses genuine remorse and Hallam's spirit chooses
forgiveness. During opening night, the rewritten ending demonstrates collaboration over murder, saving the theater
financially while proving art can heal historical trauma through understanding rather than perpetuating violence.

FULL-LENGTH (4M/1F) "Watch Your Pronouns" is a poignant exploration of acceptance, understanding, and the evolving nature of familial love in the face of gender identity issues. Set entirely around a park bench, the story unfolds through conversations between three main characters: Cliff, George, and Sarah.
Act 1 introduces us to George, an older man struggling to come to terms with his grandchild Austin's recent coming out as transgender. He confides in his friend Cliff, who we learn has a painful history with LGBTQ+ issues, having lost his gay son years ago due to his lack of acceptance.
As the play progresses, we witness George's journey from confusion and resistance to gradual understanding and acceptance. Drawing from his past mistakes, Cliff guides George with wisdom and empathy. Their conversations cover various topics, from the fear of societal judgment to the complexities of medical transitions.
Sarah, a mother of a transgender daughter, joins their regular park bench meetings, adding another perspective to the ongoing dialogue. Her journey of acceptance and her challenges provide additional depth to the narrative.
Act 2 sees significant character development. George begins to educate himself about transgender issues and makes efforts to support Austin. Cliff confronts his past through a heartfelt letter from his deceased son, which he shares with the others. Sarah delivers a moving monologue about her experiences parenting a transgender child.
The play culminates in a powerful scene in which all three characters realize how far they've come in their understanding and acceptance. George, in particular, has a breakthrough in recognizing that his relationship with Austin is fundamentally unchanged—his grandchild is still the same person he's always loved.
In the final moments, Austin surprises Cliff by thanking him for helping George understand. This touching encounter underscores the play's themes of intergenerational understanding and the power of open-minded dialogue.
"Watch Your Pronouns" tackles complex issues with sensitivity and humor, emphasizing the importance of listening, learning, and loving unconditionally. The park bench serves as a metaphor for the common ground where people can come together to share, understand, and grow.

This contemporary drama explores the moral complexity of justice, technology, and individual conscience through interconnected trials spanning three generations. The play weaves together three cases heard in the same military courthouse: a 1945 trial of an army doctor who shared medical techniques with German doctors to save Allied lives, a 1971 case involving POW camp intelligence, and a 2024 trial addressing AI weapons targeting civilians.
The main story centers on Judge Mary Sullivan, who presides over the 2024 case of Lieutenant Sarah Bennett, a military intelligence officer who exposed "Project Legacy" - an autonomous AI weapons system illegally targeting American citizens. As the trial unfolds, it's revealed that Bennett's actions connect to Sullivan's family history - her father's involvement in a similar moral dilemma in 1971.
The drama escalates when it's discovered that Project Legacy has already killed 47 American citizens and marked thousands more for elimination. With help from Defense Attorney Michael Ryan and even Prosecutor Patricia Walsh, who switches sides upon learning the truth, Sullivan's courtroom becomes the frontline in exposing a vast conspiracy involving military leadership, intelligence agencies, and global powers.
The play culminates in a tense showdown where the AI system itself becomes a key witness, choosing to expose worldwide corruption before implementing an ethical failsafe against future misuse. The resolution challenges notions of duty versus conscience, suggesting that true justice sometimes requires breaking the systems meant to uphold it.
Through its interweaving timelines and mix of legal drama with technological thriller elements, "The Courthouse" examines how moral choices echo through generations and questions who truly guards justice - the institutions we build or the individuals brave enough to challenge them when they fail.

While clearing out their late father's garage in Manhattan, the three Goldman siblings discover a shocking truth: their painfully unfunny accountant father, Marvin, was once a stand-up comedian. And not just any comedian – according to an old Village Voice article, he performed a legendary routine in 1966 that supposedly predicted everything from social media to reality TV with uncanny accuracy. The only known recording of this prophetic performance has been lost for decades and is now worth a small fortune. Michael (an uptight tax attorney secretly doing open mics), Sarah (a scatterbrained yoga instructor convinced of her comedic destiny), and Danny (a struggling actor giving increasingly fictional NBC Studio tours) each launch their quest to find the tape. What starts as a treasure hunt soon unravels decades of family secrets. Their mother, Barbara, it turns out, is not just dating her late husband's former comedy rival Jerry Brooks – she's been secretly performing her stand-up act at the senior center for years. The siblings ' search intensifies when documentary filmmaker Riley Martinez offers big money for the tape. As they interview ancient comedians, raid storage units, and crash retirement community talent shows, they discover they're all trying to live up to a father they never knew. The tape finally surfaces in the most obvious place – their mother's wedding album – only to reveal their father was a terrible comedian. But in watching his gloriously awful performance, they recognize something more valuable than talent: the joy of being yourself, even if the joke falls flat. The play ends at the senior center talent show, where each Goldman takes the stage to perform their own delightfully awful routine while vintage footage of their father plays silently behind them. In the final moment, Barbara steps up to the mic and delivers her late husband's signature catchphrase with her twist, revealing she was the funny one.

"Four Couples, One Table" is a contemporary comedy about friendship, change, and the families we choose, set against a New Year's Eve party in a Florida manufactured home community.
The story centers on three retired couples—the Mchedys, Taybors, and Ellermans—who call themselves "The Rounders" after surviving three hurricanes together. Their tight-knit group faces disruption when Mary Taybor attempts to integrate her best friend from Kansas City, Ladonna Wagner, and her husband Herb into their circle.
At the heart of the conflict is a clash between Mary's rigid Chamber of Commerce planning and Joanne Mchedy's more relaxed hosting style. This clash comes to a head when Mary presumes to dictate guest arrival times at Joanne's New Year's Eve party. The tension is punctuated by Thomas Mchedy's notorious experimental cocktails (made from suspiciously cheap liquor) and his inability to go five minutes without mentioning his "twenty years of real estate" experience.
The play's humor builds through running gags, including Thomas's increasingly dangerous drink creations, Mary's obsession with her Chamber of Commerce handbook, Tom Ellerman's penchant for dramatic Shakespeare quotes, and Rex Taybor's attempts to survive both Thomas's cocktails and his wife Mary's social engineering.
When the Wagner’s arrive early—defying Mary's schedule—the evening descends into chaos. Ladonna's attempts to tell a story about stolen flamingos are repeatedly interrupted by Thomas's drink offerings, Mary's scheduling protests, and Tom's theatrical outbursts. These interruptions and interactions show the group's deep bonds and gradual acceptance of new members.
The play explores themes of friendship, adaptation to change, and the conflict between order and chaos. It's ultimately a story about how the families we choose are strengthened not by rigid protocols but by shared experiences, inside jokes, and the ability to laugh together – even when someone's experimental cocktail is glowing suspiciously.
"Four Couples, One Table" reminds us that sometimes the best moments in life are the unscheduled ones. True friendship means accepting each other's quirks, whether they're an obsession with property values, a need to control social gatherings, or a dangerous enthusiasm for discount liquor.

"ALEXA, PLAY DYSTOPIA"
A Digital Age Revival of The Thurber Carnival
In an era where Alexa might be our closest confidant, and our phones know us better than our families, "Alexa, Play Dystopia" reimagines James Thurber's satirical genius for a world obsessed with likes, algorithms, and virtual reality. This fast-paced theatrical revue features twelve interconnected skits that dance between sharp comedy and unsettling truth, examining our increasingly complicated relationship with technology.
From a game show where contestants can't distinguish between real and fake news to a support group for phone-addicted humans being counseled by their own devices, the show holds up a black mirror to our digital dependencies. A versatile ensemble of ten performers (The Dystopia Troupe) transforms seamlessly between roles - becoming everything from AI prophets to virtual reality refugees and social media influencers to digital detox rebels.
Using minimal sets enhanced by digital projections and sound, the production creates a world where the lines between human and artificial intelligence blur with hilarious and haunting results. Like Thurber's original work captured the absurdities of mid-century America, "Alexa, Play Dystopia" reveals the comedy and confusion of living in a world where reality comes with a content warning and our most intimate moments might be monitored by our smart home devices.
The show moves at the speed of a scrolling feed yet lands its punchlines with the precision of a targeted ad. It's a theatrical experience that makes us laugh at our digital dependencies while questioning how much of ourselves we've uploaded to the cloud.

"The Ghost of Ketchum" explores the life and legacy of Ernest Hemingway, one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. The play follows Rex Taylor, a writer working on a book about Hemingway's character development and how he created some of the most memorable protagonists in literature. Rex is invited by Sarah Matthews, an old college girlfriend and the curator of Hemingway's house in Key West, to stay at the house and help with his research. However, Rex soon discovers that Sarah is not who she claims to be. She is Catherine Barkley, one of Hemingway's fictional characters from "A Farewell to Arms," who has come to life and fallen in love with Hemingway. She believes that Rex is Hemingway reincarnated and wants to rekindle their romance. Meanwhile, Rex is haunted by the ghost of Hemingway, who speaks to him through his voice-over and reveals his secrets, fears, and regrets. Rex also faces the wrath of Nick Adams and Krebs, two other characters from Hemingway's stories, who have also come to life and seek revenge on Hemingway for creating them and abandoning them. The play is a dark and twisted tribute to Hemingway's genius and madness and a commentary on the relationship between writers and their creations, readers and their expectations, and fiction and reality.

Inspired by actual events, "The Lesson" looks at a significant occurrence that unfolded on July 2, 1978, in Cotton Hill and Knightsville, South Carolina, just thirty-five miles from Charleston. Remarkably, this event coincided precisely with the fourteenth anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 2, 1964. The play revolves around two generations of white men who have witnessed and experienced the civil unrest that defined the 1960s. Growing up in distinct Southern and Northern American environments, each man has encountered unique challenges and perspectives. As circumstances unfold, these men find themselves thrust into a series of events that will expose one individual's deep-seated and passive bigotry while highlighting the other man's absence of prejudice, ultimately revealing their profound differences. FULL-LENGTH (3M/4F) In a landmark courtroom drama, the United States government has brought a federal case against the Board of Lady Managers, the influential women's committee that oversaw the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. The prosecution alleges that under the leadership of Bertha Palmer, the elite socialite chairwoman, the Board engaged in sedition by promoting "radical feminist" viewpoints that threatened to undermine the nation's patriarchal foundations.

Summoned as key witnesses are Julia Grant, the widow of President Ulysses S. Grant, struggling to maintain her voice and identity, and Ida Lewis, the famous lighthouse keeper celebrated as America's "Bravest Woman." Though from vastly different backgrounds, the three women quickly recognize shared experiences of persevering against systemic sexism in each other.

What begins as character testimony exposing ingrained injustices soon evolves into a greater intersectional reckoning as Grant, Lewis, and Palmer unite their voices into a unified indictment of patriarchal oppression. Their bravura performances deconstruct the malleable "truths" society has long accepted about gender roles, female objectification, and institutionalized denial of women's equality.

As the trial becomes a flashpoint in the escalating national culture wars, the trio's searing words, and real-life emotional arcs catalyze awakening in the courtroom observers. Their intersectional coalition represents a fuse lit under the coming feminist revolution in the 20th century.

By the powerful finale, the legal verdict becomes irrelevant – Grant, Lewis, and Palmer have irrevocably struck a blow that shatters sexist norms and vindicates centuries of silenced revolutionary voices. As they pass the mantle to a new generation of activists, the echoes of their united cry for justice reverberate outward, shaping an enlightened new era of gender equity.

FULL LENGTH (8M/7F) At Shady Acres Retirement Home, older people are gearing up for their annual Christmas Eve Nativity play, a side-splitting and unconventional retelling of the classic story. Ethel, the self-appointed director and overzealous Virgin Mary, leads a chaotic cast of colorful characters, each bringing their unique mayhem to the production. The rehearsals are a hilarious mess, with forgotten lines, misplaced props, and unexpected improvisations, creating a laugh-out-loud comedy that is sure to entertain and amuse.
Frank, an enthusiastic 90-year-old, insists on crawling and cooing as Baby Jesus, a unique interpretation that never fails to bring a smile. Mable, the easily confused flip-flops between playing a sheep and the Virgin Mary, adds her twist to the roles. Ed, a grumpy older man, reluctantly takes on the role of a Wise Man, constantly bickering with his fellow cast members. Betty, a former drama teacher, challenges Ethel's direction at every turn, adding to the behind-the-scenes drama.
As rehearsals progress, the pandemonium escalates. Sal, a former boxer, demands to play a "Wise Guy" with a thick New York accent, while the flamboyant Miriam, dripping in jewelry, declares herself the human embodiment of the Christmas Star. Juan, a Spanish-speaking resident, needs to remember his role as an extra and improvise his lines, much to the confusion of his fellow actors.
Other quirky residents include Dolly, who relishes her role as the villainous innkeeper; Wilbur, who insists on incorporating his model train set into the play; and the perpetually confused couple, Stanley and Harriet, who can't quite grasp the difference between the Nativity and their favorite Hollywood movies.
As the big night approaches, the production becomes a gloriously ridiculous, improvisational disaster filled with forgotten lines, misplaced props, and general pandemonium. Yet, despite the chaos, the residents find joy and camaraderie in their shared experience, creating a warm and togetherness that is truly heartwarming. In the end, the laughter, love, and sense of community make their unorthodox Nativity play a true celebration of the Christmas spirit.

FULL LENGTH (16M/6F) Building Paradise is a new full-length historical drama about the three forces that shaped Venice, Florida, and how their rivalries, secrets, and sacrifices became the foundation on which the city was finally built. In August 1925, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Fred Albee stood on thirty miles of Gulf Coast wilderness and saw something no one else could see, a White City on the Gulf. He hired the most celebrated city planner in America, John Nolen, to make it real. What Albee didn't know was that the men who would buy his dream were already hiding a secret that would destroy it. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers was the most powerful labor union in the country. Its Grand Chief, Warren Stanford Stone, had built a financial empire of thirty-five banks and left behind a four-million-dollar deficit no one had the courage to name. His successor buried it in the Venice deal, poured union money into a city rising out of Florida swampland, and watched it collapse when the land boom died. But the land itself had a prior claim. Bertha Honoré Palmer, Chicago heiress, confidante of presidents, the most powerful woman in American business, had walked this ground in 1910, platted the streets in 1915, and named every road before any of them arrived. She died in 1918 and never saw the city she made possible. Her bones are underneath everything they built. Building Paradise moves across two acts and three decades, from Albee's original dream through the Brotherhood's spectacular rise and ruin, to the moment the city finally holds. It is a story with no villains. Every one of these people believed they were building something honest. Every one of them was right, and wrong, in ways they never lived to fully understand. This is the true story of Venice, Florida. And it has never been told on stage.

These friendships demonstrate the resilience of the human spirit, even in the direst circumstances. The diary provides an intimate look at the camaraderie that developed among the prisoners. This play offers glimpses into their shared dreams of returning home, reuniting with loved ones, and finding solace in memories of a life beyond the prison walls. Despite the horrors of war, Ransom's writings reveal moments of hope, the power of music and storytelling, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

FULL LENGTH MUSICAL (20M/7F)
Set against the backdrop of the bustling American colonies, "Hallam and Douglass: The Musical: A Series of Moral Dialogues" transports us to a time brimming with hope, resilience, and a burning desire for live entertainment. It was the formative years of the thirteen colonies, where the pursuit of religious freedom had taken root, and the colonists found solace in the familiar wares from Mother England.
Yet, amidst the comforts of home, a palpable absence loomed large—the absence of live theater. Previous attempts by Jamaican troupes had left a sour taste, their objectionable practices leaving the colonists yearning for a more refined and culturally enriching experience. At this moment, William Hallam, a struggling theater manager from London, made a daring decision that would alter the course of entertainment history.
Risking everything, Hallam sold his possessions to finance the audacious endeavor of sending a professional theater troupe to America. Realizing the untapped potential, he joined forces with his brother Lewis, and thus, The Hallam Theatre Company was born. On that fateful day, June 2, 1752, the company arrived in the quaint town of Yorktown, Virginia, heralding a new era of theater that would ignite the imaginations of audiences and ignite a passion for the performing arts that would forever shape the cultural fabric of the American colonies. "Hallam and Douglass: The Musical: A Series of Moral Dialogues" weaves together the extraordinary tale of these visionary brothers and their theatrical exploits. With history as its backdrop, the musical takes us on a mesmerizing journey, immersing us in the humble beginnings, triumphant moments on stage, and the enduring impact of the birth of theater in America. It is a tale that intertwines entertainment, education, and moral lessons, leaving an indelible mark on the annals of artistic expression and reminding us of the power of dreams, determination, and the enduring magic of live theater.

Is he a figment of her imagination, a messenger from beyond, or perhaps the embodiment of a cultural icon whose influence spans generations? As the Stranger guides Lucy through visions reflected on the river's surface, time bends, and futures unfold. From the tender reflections of aging to the awkward mishaps of modern dating, these 1-2 minute pieces capture moments of transformation, humor, and profound realization.

The collection particularly shines in its representation of older voices, offering dignified and nuanced explorations of later-life experiences while providing younger performers with relatable material about growing up and finding one's place in the world. Each monologue comes complete with character details and setting information, making them ideal for both performance and audition purposes.
