Artistic Statement
I think the world is ready for plays that are bigger, funnier, stranger, and more interesting than we currently have, and I want to be one of the people writing those plays. I’m fascinated by the hearts of horror stories, and find myself pulling my favorite nightmares apart in my work, again and again, to see what makes them tick and to make room for myself inside.
The work I love to make plays with time and language to create characters who are horny, messy, loving, and above all, smart. I write for and about femme+ survivors of trauma, having lived through my own horror stories, but I still think a successful script has places where an audience can heal itself by laughing.
I know I'm constantly evolving, and really love looking for new collaborators who push me to make better, more inclusive, and more coherent artwork. I love to work with fabulism, horror, and magical realist elements (as well as historical eras and events) to refract a cracked view of the world, particularly to make a place for those who have traditionally been excluded from theatrical storytelling. I relish ambiguity, inclusivity, and the ability to make an audience laugh at varying levels of comfort.
