Artistic Statement
Writing for the theatre is, for me, a joyful, powerful, and often difficult revelation. Writing for the theatre is profound in its intersection of artists. Each member of an artistic staff adds their own visual layers or nuance, and their spectacular and theatrical ideas, to the play. Each audience member may mesh their personal experiences or determine their own distances during the live theatre experience. It is a very real collaboration. As an artist, I want the characters that come to me in the writing process, to reveal some kind of enlightenment to audiences, whether the characters are appealing or appalling. As an artist, I hope that my stories and their meanings, become meaningful to you and to your audiences. As both actor and audience, I have been deeply influenced by playwrights such as: Timberlake Wertenbaker, Sarah Ruhl, Eugene Ionesco, Samuel Beckett, Jean Anouilh, Bertolt Brecht and Peter Weiss.
