Artistic Statement
All of my work is autobiographical; I just use other people to tell the story. Whenever one thing can effectively accomplish what I want to communicate better than what I could write from scratch, I choose that thing – whatever it is. Sometimes it’s a historical character, sometimes it’s a visual metaphor, and sometimes it’s a Bugs Bunny reference.
In my plays, I believe that:
• shorter is better
• borrow what you need to establish trust with the audience
• every play should be written with purpose
• comedy leaves a longer-lasting impression than tragedy
My work deals with the timeless American story, queer identities and LGBT themes, sci-fi elements, and humor when we're at our worst.
