I do not feel that I am great at writing about myself, which is why I choose to write for other people. This is why I not only became an actor, but a playwright; exploring other brains fascinates and inspires me. Regardless, I will start with a simple fact: my name is Megan Tripaldi and I am in a life-partnership with Theatre. Apart from the fact that I founded my own non-profit theatre company (Polyphonic Theatre Ensemble) in 2014, I think that my life is better because of theatre and the abilities I have gained to make my living performing and writing.
I love storytelling. I love learning what makes up the structure of a story, and how different techniques of telling a story can affect those who not only experience it, but tell it. In my most recent writing I have been borderline obsessed with mythology and asking the question, “why is this important?” In researching mostly Greek and Christian myths I have come to discover that a lot of ideas behind misogynistic ideals, such as the most recurring one I’ve noticed being women as lesser beings, have shaped society and art that we continue to study and build our own portfolios on. In response to that I have been crafting plays that challenge these myths by taking back the agency of these women and subsequently erased non-binary people. What excites me is the creation of myth in the first place. I want to keep researching other cultural mythologies and find a connecting thread of what makes a myth stick. Through this I am hoping to discover what separates religion and myth and why one becomes a story and the other becomes a lifestyle.
Stories surround my everyday life and have become part of why I do what I do. My biggest goal as a writer is to keep telling stories. Because after all, isn’t that what being a writer is all about?
