As a writer, I’m drawn to shining a light on histories dark corners – things that people
haven’t heard of or angles of something familiar we’ve never seen before. It is my responsibility
to give the people I research an honest and authentic voice My work aims to pay homage to a
moment in history and/or give the audience something to feel in the here and now – a feeling that
people’s lives are universal. We all might have different hopes, dreams, fears, anxieties, but we all
have the same human spirit. We all draw from the same well of the human condition. It’s in that
broader understanding to the people of the past that I hope people of today will have a more
specific understanding of those around them.
