Artistic Statement
If a play doesn't change me, I won't write it.
As a writer and a spectator, I like plays that have strong dramatic structure and thematic gravity. If I am not seized emotionally and stimulated mentally, I am disappointed.
I love collaborating with directors, dramaturgs and actors in order to revise, revise, revise my work and make it fly. Having been a nonfiction author for many years, I know the solitude of a writer and thus have a special appreciation for the collaborative nature of theatrical writing. I love discovering what I have written (and what I may need to write) after hearing it through actors and seeing it through directors.
