Artistic Statement
As someone whose heritage has been historically excluded and systematically erased, identity, genealogy, and curating cultural connections to whom we were, are, and will be, fuel my artistry. It is my mission as a radical dreamer, to see reflected in my craft, the equitable world I want to live in that simultaneously preserves and honors the worlds within the unique universes my ancestors once lived in.
History has long been a narrative of negligence. It categorizes people as “the other,” stymieing them to the margins and eradicates them as the lost, who cannot be found. My body of work, which illuminates the intersections of Blackness and queerness throughout history, challenges this implanted masquerade and contests the current cultural narrative that frames the global majority as absent during critical junctures of humanity’s history.
With my writing, I intend to curate cultural conversations chronicling community, no matter how difficult and operate from a place of radical empathy rather than enthusiastic exploitation.
In this age of rediscovery and reimagination, my expressed hope that my entire body of work, serves as a template honoring the complexity of our storied humanity, stimulating those rendered traditionally oppressed to steer and ultimately, control our own narratives.
