Artistic Statement

The arts are a miracle of the human experience. It can be both a healing medium and a voracious tool with which we can point out our failures and inefficacies as a society. As a veteran, some of my artistic inspirations are borne directly out of my experiences in the military. As an African-American, my experience as a Black man in America is a foundational source from which I can explore the arts. I have seen the power of the theatre and what it can do for a healing veteran. I endeavor to explore and capitalize on that rich pool of creative expression I have found in playwriting. I personally believe that the greatest theatre points out the wrongs in the world, in our society, in the individual person without fear and without compromise. Exceptional theatre should force us to look in at ourselves and cause us to question our beliefs and complacencies. The theatre is an effective and time-tested form of escape. It transcends the viewer away, even if only for a moment, from the realities of life, whether good or bad.
