Artistic Statement
As a writer, I am most inspired by true stories, by real people. My musical The Mistress Cycle focuses on women such as Diane de Poitiers and Anais Nin. Oneida is based on the Oneida Community, front-page news in the 1800’s but forgotten today.
Most recently, I've been bringing to dramatic life the stories of Forgotten Women of France - and there are a lot of them!
Hope Sings, the for-benefit music organization I founded, creates original songs inspired by success stories of charities that help women – songs which, in turn, inspire support for those organizations so they can help even more women. Our motto: SINGING STORIES OF CHANGE - TO CHANGE THE STORIES OF LIVES.
I am always thinking about impact when I write. I want people to leave the theatre changed. I believe theatre is a sneaky, subtle, subversive way to open hearts and minds.
