Artistic Statement
As an immigrant from Argentina raised in NYC, I have always lived between two worlds and two languages. This shared and thorny history between the US and Latin America – a legacy of dictatorships, economic imperialism, and disastrous neoliberal policies that I have inherited,– inevitably haunts my work. The only way I know how to exorcise these demons of history is to put them onstage. My plays juxtapose characters within their cultural legacies of colonization and nationalism that lie at the many-bordered heart of my “American” identity. To do so, I reach into the multiplicity of language and voice, the playfulness of ‘magical realism’ and the put the past and present in counterpoint with each other.
