Artistic Statement

I believe that all plays at their core are coming-of-age stories. I am particularly drawn to the relationship between who we were as teenagers and who we become as adults. I’m much more moved by the way something feels than the way that it was so I tend to avoid naturalism and linear stories. Most of my writing is structurally innovative and plays with the way form and content are interconnected. My plays and musicals feature strong female characters and unconventional relationships. Influences include Tony Kushner, Marie Irene Fornes, and novelists Virginia Woolf and Jennifer Egan.
