Artistic Statement
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: plays should be bigger than their authors. When theater artists strive for inclusion, then incidentally, organically, almost magically they help address social problems. I think it works like this: when everyone feels included, when all people feel confident that society gives a shit about them, then they will give enough of a shit about society to try to serve it well. I believe that theater is a great shortcut to that benefit. My responsibility as a theater artist is to make sure folks know the shortcut.
