Deborah is a California native and can’t imagine moving out of state, let alone to the South. Nicholas, her husband, learns of an academic opening that perfectly matches his field of study, the music of south Louisiana. He accepts the position, and it doesn’t take long before Deborah realizes they have moved to what feels like another country with so many different cultural, political, and social customs. Some of the differences delight, like the music scene and the courir de Mardi Gras, and some are exasperating and uncomfortable. Deborah struggles mightily with the heat and humidity and finding like-minded friends, while Nicholas jumps into his new role working long hours and navigating the university bureaucracy. How will this move impact both of their careers, their marriage, and their creative lives? How are the cultural bubbles of the San Francisco Bay Area and south Louisiana similar and different? An on-stage band adds a musical backdrop to the play.

Every five to ten years, Esther gathers her friends and former music colleagues to introduce them to her latest husband. This year they meet in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Amidst the festivities a mystery evolves.

What do the letters reveal? What will Lynn learn about herself, her relationship with her husband, and with her mom?
