People are complex and trying to give the world a glimpse of that complexity, whether in ten minutes or three hours is a triumph of human will to achieve. I believe you can do this in fresh ways without having to teach audiences how to be an audience for a play. I believe there's a place for narrative, even in the abstract. And I don't believe a character should be stereotyped. People are nuanced and I want to reflect that with thoughtfulness. I never want to present a play that cannot be open to all, whether in cast or audience. I believe in the grandeur of the mystical. In a simple yearning to be known. And in the utter depravity and destruction caused by the fear of silence. I also believe in getting fun and whimsical and a little silly too, because if we take life seriously all the time- that's no fun either. I'm currently reading through the vast catalog of Armistead Maupin.
