Artistic Statement
I left my career in journalism in 1994, when I discovered I was more interested in what people told me off-record than what they were willing to see in print. Playwriting, I discovered, is a way to explore those unguarded moments. Journalism is about pursuing the Truth, an accurate depiction of our censored selves. Theater suspends "Truth" in favor of Honesty: how we really think and behave. It is in the latter camp that I have staked my claim, hoping that my theater work has made me a more honest recorder of the human experience.
