Artistic Statement

I write plays that feature heightened language and meaty, central roles for women. I’m interested in telling stories that can only be told live in a theater—play texts that demand distinctly theatrical gestures and ask an audience to enter a never-before-seen playworld to learn a never-before-heard language. Though I’m interested in writing for a lot of different kinds of performers, I do hope to create—over the course of a career—a body of work in which female actors are offered ample opportunities to play nuanced and challenging roles.
