I write because I can't not write. Words are my nourishment, my passion, and my life's work, and putting them on paper fulfills me like nothing else. I have a special interest in writing plays that pose existential questions: How do people create meaning and purpose in life? Does free will exist? How do we deal with grief, loss, and the knowledge that one day we will die? These are issues I thought about a lot in my angsty teenage years; writing was therapeutic, a way of grappling with questions that defied easy answers, and they continue to inform my plays now. I love writing plays inspired by mythology and classical Greek drama, and have written several plays in verse. Coming from a political science background, I also want my plays to impact the world today: I hope that my words, while illuminating what connects us all as human beings, can also bring into focus and critically examine some of the social, economic and political inequalities entrenched in today’s society. While many of my plays are dramas, I have a humorous side, too, and enjoy writing silly, absurdist comedies. Uniting my plays are multifaceted characters struggling and ultimately connecting with what it means to be human.
