Artistic Statement
I write because it’s what I love and feel called do. I basically want to do writing that’s anti-racist and anti-patriarchal, and to make work that is created in community and that creates community. I have a pretty deep faith in literature and theater as something that has the ability to move us between the individual and the collective. I mean in the way that it expands our hearts, in how it displaces subjecthood, questions identification, transforms characters, puts us on the spot, troubles what an I or a you or a we is, posits some shared humanity; it feels full of radical possibilities for connectivity and collective liberation. That’s what I’m interested in in writing; that feels like what guides and sustains my practice.
