Artistic Statement
I believe in the power of the written word and the importance of diverse voices in literature, theater, and the arts. The amplification of our diverse voices is a political act of resistance. Our lives are important, too, and as a Chicano writer, I have dedicated myself to the promotion of honest, non-stereotypical representation of our lives in literature, theater, and the arts. That representation deserves to be disseminated and noticed and available. And with respect to the dissemination and promotion of diverse voices—publishers, artistic directors, librarians, educators, and editors—play such an important role. They deserve not only a hearty shout out, but also our thanks and support.
