Artistic Statement
I write about ordinary people creating families out of broken parts. Because I grew up in a paper-mill town in Maine, the characters I'm drawn to have real jobs; they are often caught between staying and fleeing; and they can be really, really funny. In these distressing political times, I feel obligated to write deeply humane stories that remind us how much we belong to one another.
