She writes plays, television, films, and musicals about ordinary people caught in extraordinary moral dilemmas. With a deep tenderness and sharp wit, she explores how ambition, shame, class, and need for belonging drive people toward acts of remarkable courage or devastating consequence.

Emily is a graduate of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop and developing her musical The Scarlet Letter (Catwalk Arts Residency). She wrote the 5-episode serialized mystery podcast, "Process" (Austin Film Festival—Second Rounder), which will be released in 2026.

Originally from Portland, Oregon, Emily has a BA in Playwriting from Brown University and an MFA in Playwriting from Columbia University.

45-60 minutes. Barnabus Sappington used to be a butler, and Barnabus Sappington is in therapy. His therapist, Dr. Robinson, isn't very good at his job, but is very good at interrupting his client's stories. We piece together Sappington's past and meet the many previous families he worked for, including a murderous 8 year old, a group of retired Broadway actresses, and an expat from Spain escaping the law.
