Artistic Statement
As a multi-racial, gender non-conforming, LGBTQIA+ writer and performer, the intersection of my identities compels me to make work which employs theater as an agent for visibility and inclusion. I write plays to contribute to a new theatrical canon where LGBTQ people, immigrants, and mixed race people of color are the new protagonists, and their stories are regarded by dominant culture as not only socially relevant and culturally significant but also vital, commercially viable pieces of art. While we are well on the road to this reality, there is still much work to be done – on the page and off.
