Artistic Statement

Growing up queer there had always been a dissonance in the way I related to most characters seen in mainstream media. Discovering the LGBT+ section of my local library filled the void of having never seen my experiences depicted in fiction. Reading stories about people struggling with the gender identity society assigns them gave me the language to think about my own gender identity and how it ultimately differed from what I had been assigned at birth. Theater is an incredibly powerful tool to amplified people's voices, to inspire change, and to teach empathy, that is why I have committed myself to playwriting.
