Artistic Statement
I am an actor-playwright-arts educator. I am a long-time member of the award-winning LAByrinth Theater Company; the company was created to deliberately interrupt the racial status quo by giving voice to artists of color and reflecting a world where color is the norm and not the exception. I am also a proud native son of New York City. I grew up on the upper westside in government housing, The Frederick Douglass projects.
My plays deal with working class New Yorkers of color who are striving for their own piece of the American dream. The plays for the most part deal with working class New York Latino culture, the family unit. The struggles to find a place in a world and in a city that often times makes one feel like an eternal outsider, displaced human forever looking for a home and a sense of an identity.
