Artistic Statement
I use theatremaking to create queer utopias. My writing is about queer people carving out space for themselves in the midst of capitalist and patriarchal claustrophobia. I wrote my first play in middle school, about flying fish that could actually fly, and that first, joyful exploration manifests in my current pieces. My work always has an element of fantasy, and a place in which there is safety from the ugly. I have created biblical heroines who live in mirrors, abuse survivors who can turn back time, and mystical paintings that display a queer couple's journey. It is in these magical spaces where the outcasts of society can find peace.
