I've lived a lot of places, done a lot of jobs, seen a lot of life, been trapped, desperate.
I've wondered.
If I get out, what will I do?
If I get out, where will I go?
If I stay, what then?
My characters -- as I have often been -- are caught in the liminal.
In haunted diners, cluttered apartments, luscious hollers, blood-drenched battlefields, soulless art studios.
In marriages, families, countries.
Between Black and White, love and hate, rich and poor, life and death, perception and reality, safety and danger, left and right, over here and over there, the past, the present, and the future.
I wonder.
If they get out, what will they do?
If they get out, where will they go?
If they stay, what then?
I wonder.
If we get out, what will we do?
If we get out, where will we go?
If we stay, what then?
The world demands we pick a lane — one ethnicity, nationality, gender, identity. But humans are a mess, inside and out.
My vision is a world unafraid to explore that mess: the convergence of who we are inside ourselves and between each other, where we love, hate, thrive, and fall apart.
Theatre is where we examine and honor that glorious, terrifying chaos — the liminal space we call "human."
I've wondered.
