Shot in Bagdad
Synopsis
Tarik, a young Iraqi-American actor is hired by a director to star in a film being made about a tragic bombing death in Bagdad. The script is a work in progress, and his being cast actually begins to affect how the story will be told. He is understandably overjoyed at the opportunity, and travels with the company to Baghdad even though there is constant civil unrest. There, he meets Safia, the sister of the man he is portraying. She is not exactly thrilled with him or the film project. When a filmed discussion with two other Iraqi actors is accidentally sent out over the internet, he becomes “mis-identified” as an underground hero. The “accident” at first outrages the director of the film, but then intrigues him. His predicament also attracts the interest of the U.S. Embassy which may be able to use this misunderstanding to its own benefit. The misperception becomes part of the movie being made. The lines between reality and fiction become blurred, and Tarik’s dream of being a movie star becomes more of a nightmare. Only Safia and a strange man who keeps his face hidden keep Tarik from falling over the edge.
