Artistic Statement

As a theatre artist, I am drawn to extremes, whether eccentric, intense, surreal, or otherwise. The chance to explore how audiences engage with human extremity through live performance fuels my work; such is especially true when some extremes receive praise while others receive controversy.

I have reflected on the need to inform, challenge, and entertain in a tumultuous, post-pandemic world, and I believe the twenty-first century audience has grown too complacent with the palatable and too resistant to the unfamiliar and uncomfortable. Don’t get me wrong—there is a market for the palatable. It just isn’t my market. Moreover, I take issue when stories of change die off to make room for stories of “what we are used to and okay with.”

Extremes evoke the change I seek. Extremes are in your face and hard to ignore. I will not be ignored. I am excited to share my bold, new voice as a playwright and continue my pursuit of change in theatre. I cannot imagine doing anything else in life.
