Artistic Statement

i am (morgan) and come to writing as a performer, performance artist, bibliophile, and grandchild of a librarian. I was raised in the middle of Ohio by a grandmother and mother, who secretly loved and & abandoned theater. i discover this after their deaths, digging through old yearbooks, uncovering each woman as a member of the National Thespians.

i begin working in theater at a young age, & neither woman ever mentions it. i remember our trip to The Nutcracker, at The Palace Theater downtown. the performance seemed magic. how the performance somehow stretched all the way to the delicately painted pastel angel and cloud ceiling, filling the space with a certain saturated feeling nestled within red velvet curtains. It is this feelings I become obsessed with recreating.

i see myself an achivist & historian & oracle & doula of such a specific moment in the world.my unique point of view as an adopted multiracial black queer orphan allows me an expansive pallate to record on.
