Artistic Statement

My work revolves around radical empathy: understanding villains, understanding human existence in the distant past, understanding people. My play, "The Foleys," explores the sins and sympathies of the most unsympathetic characters of our times, Wall Street fraudsters. My second play, "The Station," obliquely explores the world QAnon believers, examining how smart people can be so easily fooled and the intrinsic violation involved in the simple act of telling a lie. My novel, "The Book Of," tells the story of a hypnotist and her band of cult-like followers. I aim always to approach my characters with humanity rather than scorn, even as they make spectacular fools of themselves.
