My favorite work tends to live in situations where everybody is trying their best, but it’s still a big mess of brilliance and failure. Coming from a comedy background, I steer away from stories that are only rooted in trauma. Conflict is often essential to storytelling, but my stories arise from joy, absurdity, unexpectedness, arrival. Recovery stories that take us away from the flatness of suffering and redemption. Trans stories that go beyond transition and violence. Native stories that transcend displacement and erasure into connection and invention. I am excited to work with performers, directors, and collaborators to bring these stories to life.
