Artistic Statement
My work as a playwright is rooted in the belief that the stage is a sacred space for historical reclamation and cultural rhythm. I write to bridge the gap between the archives of the past and the heartbeat of the present, specifically focusing on the nuances of the Black experience.
Because I approach the page with the soul of a singer and the eye of a director, my writing is inherently rhythmic and musical, even in non-musical dramas. I am drawn to the "humanity behind the history"—the quiet moments of vulnerability that exist within iconic figures and the unsung resilience of the everyday person.
My core creative pillars are:
The Ensemble as One: I write scripts that demand collective chemistry, where every character serves as a vital artery to the story’s heart.
Acoustic Storytelling: I prioritize the musicality of language, ensuring that the dialogue carries a cadence that feels as lived-in as it is poetic.
Purposeful Provocation: I strive to create work that functions as a mirror and a bridge—challenging audiences to reflect on our shared history while inviting them to participate in a more empathetic future.
I don’t just write plays to be read; I write "performance roadmaps" designed to be inhabited, challenged, and brought to life through the raw, unfiltered power of the human voice.
