Artistic Statement
I believe in the healing power of the arts.
I believe we all deserve to engage in the arts regardless of education or socio-economic status and that access to the arts is our right even if it is not our profession.
I believe the community connecting power of theatre can be just as effective as a protest when it comes to enacting social change.
I believe if every neighborhood and barrio had an accessible theatre where they regularly saw shows or engaged in workshops and discussed socio-political topics that were relevant to their lived experiences we'd be living in a radically empathetic and more hospitable world.
I believe in collective power.
I believe that a theatre landscape where the stories of my community are considered canon becomes possible with every new play I write, every creative team that gets to chew on the play, and every audience that gets to experience the play with their neighbors.
I believe in laughing ‘til it hurts.
I believe that honoring and preserving the stories of my community is revolutionary.
I believe I am here to nurture a culture of access, wellness, equity, multicultural experiences, consensus, joy, and matriarchy within the landscape of theatre in Philadelphia and beyond.
I believe being an artist is a super power.
I believe in using my powers for good.
I believe we all deserve to engage in the arts regardless of education or socio-economic status and that access to the arts is our right even if it is not our profession.
