Artistic Statement

My name is Robb Willoughby and I am a Playwright. The role of the playwright is a peculiar one. You perform most of your task in solitude, you rarely receive validation, and the chances of having your work produced are often less than that of being struck by lightening, and yet…you continue.

To enlighten and inform; to entertain and uplift; to provoke thought and conversation - all these things, however cliché, are what the Playwright hopes his work will achieve. But, in reality, the mission is very simple…to write plays and have them produced.
Will my plays change the world? Will they push the boundaries of theatre forward? Will my work change the lives of those who see it? Honestly - that’s not up for me to decide.
All I can do is write what is true to me. What makes me laugh - what touches my heart - and hope that it does the same for someone else.
I believe in truth. That is the ultimate goal and the role of the Playwright - to present a truth, regardless of the device you use to tell the story.
