Lana Scott Stringer

Lana Scott Stringer is a Brooklyn-based screenwriter, playwright, and dramaturg. Recent works include Plant at Atlanta's 7 Stages, American Game, a new musical she's co-bookwriting that was recently developed at TUTS in Texas and in New York, as well as Acknowledging the Elephant of My Unborn Child, an original play directed by Ashley Brooke Monroe. Other works include This is a Legend, presented as part of the Concord Theatricals 50th Annual Off-Off Broadway Short Play Festival, and short plays for Overnight Theatre, a theater company of which she is the cofounder. She was also the dramaturg and associate producer for Harrison Theater's production of The Laramie Project, and has also done dramaturgy for new musical Starting Up by HBO Max Creative Lead Garett Press.

Synopsis

When a fire ravages an individual's childhood home, they reflect on an equally damaging rainstorm that destroyed their family long ago. Forced into a cycle of memories about their parents' divorce, they consider what happens when personal history becomes folklore, what a family represents, and the ways that the patterns of nature show us patterns in ourselves. A fable of love, separation, and reconciliation told...

Through the lens of a hapless bridal consultant’s worst shift ever, a capitalist horrorscape unfolds, revealing the lengths people will go for glory and the injustices they'll tolerate along the way.

This short play collection includes all of the twenty pieces that Lana Scott Stringer wrote for Overnight Theatre, the independent theatre company that she co-founded with Jake Lane. Each of these pieces had to be written "overnight" in order to fit into the 20-30 hour turnaround production period that was the crux of this program. Some have been developed and produced further. It is a close look at improvement...

Each of these pieces had to be written "overnight" in order to fit into the 20-30 hour turnaround production period that was the crux of this program. Some have been developed and produced further.
