Artistic Statement

I am a writing artist; a storyteller. My thirst to share the richness and beauty of Black culture manifested into playwriting. I was raised and nurtured by a colorful family of urban linguists who intimated their experiences in dive bars and beauty shops. Inspired by their truth and authenticity, I learned to capture the complexities of disenfranchised people and craft stories influenced by them. Writing is my way of contributing to the evolution of American culture. Narratives that celebrate Black culture are AMERICAN stories and must be normalized and included in the canon of American Theater without question. I hope that to become true in my lifetime. I wish this for the vast cultures of storytellers that built this country. There are so many untold stories. May they have the opportunity to craft their American experience into plays and musicals so that audiences around the world can experience LIVE what truly makes this country so great.
