Sam grew up in Morristown, New Jersey. After transferring from Oberlin College, he graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Film. He also has two Masters Degrees, one in Creative Writing and one in English.
Sam’s credits include the movie Off Your Rocker, a comedy-drama about a revolution in an old folks’ home starring Milton Berle, Red Buttons, Dorothy Malone and Lou Jacobi.
Sam has written animation episodes for such shows as Duck Tales, Dennis the Menace, Batman, and Beast Wars.

Also in 2010, Sam's comedy about marital infidelity, Two Times Two, had its world premiere in New Orleans.
The film Window of Opportunity, which he wrote and directed and was released in 2015, is based on his produced stage play of the same name produced in 2006.
Sam has co-authored with Phil Proctor, Tyler and Tess in the Magic Maze, a fantasy adventure book for kids.
2016 saw the world premiere of his play Moral Imperative about morality and murder in the world of university academia. It also saw the workshop production of his new musical, Psychosexual: A Love Story.
Until his death in 2021 ED ASNER performed in God Help Us! – a play co-written by Sam and Phil Proctor. Ed performed the play around the country in over 30 cities.
Sam also co-wrote Ed’s autobiography, Son of Junkman.

Sam has taught special education in the inner city and currently is a college adjunct professor of English.
