Artistic Statement

My artistic mission in my work is to include the unsung voices of history and repressed voices of the new generation in the spotlight through dramatic arts. Without inclusion in our lives, the world would be a lonely, unremarkable place. I often engage with this mission through the practice of dramaturgy, where my contributions to and support of the theatre-making process have the power to inform, educate, and enhance the experience for everyone involved. When I approach a work in progress, I often ask the following: what does this piece mean to its creators? How do we hope this piece is received by its audience? Where are the places in this that we can find and communicate universal connection? These questions can help me find connections to the script and motivate me to learn more about its themes. There have been several projects where I have shared original playlists and vision boards with the team that have been inspired by the work. Whether it’s a Pinterest board or an article on JSTOR, research is essential for creating relevant art and portraying a unique perspective on the human experience. In addition to plays in development, I am most excited by feminist theatre and dark comedies because of my personal relationship to these genres as a woman who can’t help but laugh at the world around me. If I can find a connection to a project and know that there is space for me to collaborate on the team, it is always my mission to perform and contribute with excellence because this work is essential. The best art is not only entertaining and accessible, but challenging enough to stir its audience and the world into progressive growth.
