Part of how I write starts with being curious about a thing. That thing could be a title I jotted down one day (which was the case with RIGHT TO BEAR) that stays with me until I have to create something out of it. That thing can also be a news article I read, or something someone says on a TV show. Whatever it is, it has to stimulate my curiosity.
Being curious about how a play forms - how they seem to magically grow from seeds of an idea to a fully realized thing on stage - is what led me to start writing my own.
That curiosity, though, is rarely alone. It usually has imposter syndrome riding shotgun, and self doubt being the worst backseat driver.
But fortunate for me, the engine runs on audacity and faith.
Audacity to follow my curiosity no matter what. Faith that my voice, too, matters.
And although the roads have never been smooth, they have always taught me to keep going.
To this day I hit bumps that steer me away from self expression, but I always find my way back to where I am meant to be.
I’m now working hard to bring my writing out of the shadows of my life and into the light, where I feel it belongs. I don’t wish to be known only as an actor, but also as a writer. I want to be known as someone who loves storytelling as a whole.
