Artistic Statement
As a writing team of two, our mission is to reexamine classical texts through a feminist lens. We write about our shared experience as female-identifying individuals in a man’s world, and the unique struggles that bond women together. Our inspiration is drawn from classic tales; however, again and again we’re faced with the reality that the women within aren’t often given much agency. Our goal as playwrights is to change that narrative, to allow female characters to reclaim some of the power we see hiding between the lines, all in hopes that those watching or reading know that they too can change their story if they so wish. Our shows are NOT adaptations; we take only aspects from the original that speak to us and infuse with a modern perspective, so that our pieces are transformed, able to live and breathe on their own while still being recognizable to those familiar with the source material.
