"I don’t write merely to entertain the public. I write for the enrichment of the enlightened. For those of elite thought, my words offer clarity and insight. For those lacking intellectual depth, my words act as a mirror, forcing them to confront the uncomfortable reflection of their own ignorance." -Reyna de Jesús
My work is rooted in the urgent need to explore and preserve the Latino identity in a world that too often erases or overlooks our stories. Across plays, performances, and creative writing, I examine the tensions between memory and change, culture and displacement, community and survival.
At its heart, my writing is an homage to resilience. I honor the strength of our people, the richness of our traditions, and the spirit of those who refuse to be silenced. My characters are not bound by stereotypes or statistics, they are complex, beautiful, powerful, and grounded in truth.
I write to bring light to what is often pushed into the shadows. I dig up the truths buried beneath the surface. I write to create space for voices pushed in the margins. My work invites audiences to feel the depth of what it means to belong, and to witness the human impact of systemic injustice, especially in the face of gentrification, displacement, and cultural erasure.
By centering Latinx culture, language, and lived experience, I strive to:
-celebrate our vibrancy,
-preserve memory in places where history is being erased,
-honor the beauty and power of stories that refuse to disappear,
-create worlds where our culture is not just present, but central,
-honor the beauty and power of stories that refuse to disappear,
-affirm our place in the fabric of history and future, and
-echo the voices of my ancestors and pass them forward.
For me, storytelling is not just art—it is resistance, a revolution. It is a way to protect what matters, to reclaim space, and to inspire change. I believe in the power of stories to heal, connect, and awaken. Surviving is not enough, our people deserve to THRIVE.
This is why I write.
