Artistic Statement
My journey as an artist has always been about exploring the depths of human experience and giving voice to the stories that shape us. Growing up in Fort Worth, Texas, and being the grandson of Dr. Opal Lee, the "Grandmother of Juneteenth," I’ve been steeped in the legacy of resilience and celebration. My life’s work, however, is rooted in a relentless pursuit of artistry. Whether on stage as an actor, behind the piano composing, or in the studio mixing sound, I am driven by the desire to create something that resonates on a deeper level.
I studied Music Education at Howard University, which laid the foundation for my career as a musician, actor, and sound engineer. My technical expertise—ranging from advanced audio production to live performance—has allowed me to move seamlessly between worlds, always with the goal of telling authentic, powerful stories. Now, as I embark on writing a theatrical play, I see this as the next chapter in my creative journey.
Joining the New Play Exchange is a step I’m excited to take, as I believe it will help me grow as a playwright. The platform offers a space to connect with other writers, share work, and receive feedback, which I hope will enrich my storytelling and expand my reach.
Artistry is more than a profession for me—it’s a way of living. I am committed to continuously learning, growing, and contributing something meaningful to the world of creativity and performance.
