Mitch Hedberg Goes Speed Dating

by Dudley Stone

Synopsis

Mitch Hedberg was a real historical figure (check out his act on YouTube if you're unfamiliar), a comedian with a distinctive point of view and delivery. Here he is back from the dead and participating in the weird ritual of speed dating in a monologue that I can only describe as literary ventriloquism.

Five Seconds in the Death of Dale Johnson

by Dudley Stone

Synopsis

Dale Johnson is going to die in five seconds - five "human" seconds, that is, while the two angels (a trainee and supervisor) discuss life and death and the pros and cons of being angels in "angel" time - in other words, Dale moves at a glacial pace for the last five seconds of life while the angels move in "normal" time throughout. It's almost like prayer.

The play takes place over several months starting with the day after the 2016 election, so the beginning of the Trump era and the perpetually-on television in the background are part of the scene.
