1 - Tell the best story I can; 2 - utilize the particular strengths of live theatre (remembering that we are always in a theatre and do not need to be beholden to strictly "realistic" values); 3 - don't pander and tell the audience what to think; 4 - give the director, designers, and actors something they can really sink their teeth into.
