Artistic Statement
As an artist who happens to be asexual, I aim to be in dialogue with the dominant culture about how we depict and discuss sex, romance, desire, spectrum, orientation, and identity. I am most excited by contemporary art with diverse, embodied explorations of gender and sexuality.
As a Playwright, I aim to give visibility to Asexuality through positive autofiction narratives and contemporary investigations of historical aces. I did not plan to write. I needed to write. Once I began to understand myself, it felt necessary, vital even, to contribute - to help build cultural scaffolding for Asexuality. Representation matters. I hope to bring my life to my art in a vulnerable, truthful way that will help others understand themselves, too.
I am also curious about asexuals of the past who may have lacked our contemporary vocabulary and thus how their (a)sexuality manifested in their art/life (ie Emily Bronte, George Bernard Shaw, etc)
