I have engaged in many different art forms throughout my career: drawing, writing essays, costuming, stand-up comedy, burlesque, traditional plays and musicals, and bawdy performance art, to name a few. My playwriting ties elements of all these together, bringing my own unique fingerprint to the style. I typically don’t follow a traditional play structure or stay within one genre. Life is not one-note or neatly contained by categories, so writing in ways that box me in feels unnatural. I believe in trusting my audience to put pieces together without having to package everything with a nice little bow, because life doesn’t usually come packaged like that either.
